I had a couple problems with Hereafter when I first read it. It was good, but the writing felt a little new and I wasn't completely on board with Amelia and Joshua's relationship. Both of these issues weren't even a thought as I read Arise, the only thing going through my head was how amazing this book is.

Arise had a different feel to it. Maybe it was the story taking place in New Orleans, allegedly one of the most haunted cities in the United States. Maybe it was the introduction of new "types" of ghosts. I'm not really sure what it was, but Arise felt more mature and dangerous than Hereafter.

I like to be able to understand character decisions, even if I don't agree with them. I need actions to make sense, and a lot of the time in Young Adult novels, I'm left a little confused by way a character makes one choice versus another. Thankfully, I didn't feel this way about Arise. The choices made sense. I wasn't a big fan of a couple decisions, but they made sense for the character and that was more important than me being 100% on board. Thank you, thank you, thank you Tara Hudson, for being able to write choices that made sense.

Amelia and Joshua's relationship was the only other problem I had with Hereafter, but in Arise, I was in love with it. They aren't completely losing themselves to the other person. Sure, they might have to make a bit of an effort, but they are trying to be together without losing their individual selves. And yet, it was easy to see how much they love and care for one another. This is the way relationships in books should be.

Arise is a simply stunning book, and a fabulous summer read. It's got the romance and the action, all mixed together in a dark, rich location. This is definitely a book everyone should pick up and read.

Arise Tara Hudson 9780007437283 Books Reviews

good series, liked it a lot, good read and its enjoyable and nice. highly would suggest that you read these books
I didn't care for this series, felt like it dragged on
Bought it for someone else
I read this in 1 day. Ready for book 3 in the series so I can continue the journey with Josh and his ghostly girlfriend.
same issues as the first why must partying and drinking be a teen must? story line was good though
Last year, I read and fell in love with Hereafter. I was SO very excited to get my hands on a copy of Arise. I couldn't wait to get back into the story with some of my favorite characters. (Joshua!)

Arise picks up not long after Hereafter leaves off. Amelia and Joshua are desperately searching for a way to stop the nightmares that keep tormenting Amelia. While visiting some of Joshua's family in New Orleans, they hope that they can find answers as to why these nightmares keep happening. But they could just get more than they bargained for.

Joshua and Amelia are still one of my most favorite couples, ever! They are so sweet together, and Joshua definitely swoon-worthy. I always find myself rooting for them, hoping they can find a way to stay together. At one point in the book, my heart literally breaks for Joshua. It was a very emotional moment. I loved it. We also get to meet some new characters in Arise, a few of which I really loved, especially Amelia's new friend, Gaby. She was such a welcome addition to the story!

As in the previous book, I loved the storyline for Arise. It definitely kept me engrossed while reading the book; I HAD to know what was going to happen next. The setting for the book was very well described. I've always wanted to visit New Orleans, it sounds amazing! The end of the book came together nicely, even if there was a bit of a cliffhanger ending. I still felt that I had closure for this book. I am hoping we get to see another book in this series soon!

I also want to mention that the book covers for this series are extremely gorgeous, and they are some of my favorites of all time. SO gorgeous!

Overall, I loved reading this book! It was an excellent follow up to Hereafter. I can't wait for my finished copy to arrive in the mail so I can read it again!

Happy Reading!
Arise was a worthy sequel to Hereafter, every bit as unputdownable as the first one. Hudson really had an original idea with this series and it's always good to know that the author won't fall into the ordinary with the next novels. Arise had everything one looks for in a novel and I'm sure the next one will be just completely amazing.

The Plot Arise begins right where Hereafter left off. I loved the concept of voodoo and that Amelia became half-alive. Furthermore I think that Hudson writes with the right amount of everything romance, action and sad moments. There were many twists and turns that were, though predictable, really enjoyable. I never thought I would enjoy a ghost story so much! When I finished this novel, I was sure of one thing Arise was completely enthralling.

The Characters Amelia still is this careful but brave person. She cares for everyone and tries to do the right thing, always, even if it would hurt her. I like her very much, and I liked her even more after she met Gabrielle. I think Gaby gave Amelia a new edge. The new characters were all really easy to welcome and I hope we will read more about them in the next and final installment. And we can't forget Joshua, the totally swoon-worthy and sweet love interest. He cares a lot about Amelia and their relationship seems to get more mature.

Overall, I really enjoyed this novel. I wasn't expecting it to be this good and I certainly wasn't expecting the voodoo aspects and the awesomeness of the new characters. I hope that Hudson will keep this up and that the third novel will be just as great as this one. If you haven't read Hereafter yet, you certainly should!
