The fun thing about these stories is that they are the same story told from two different points of view. And I gotta say, they are really good YA! A lot of what is written and out there right now is NA or borderline on NA. This isn't. It really is about two teenagers and dealing with teenage issues, and it really was fun to read.

Ryan has been in love with Liza for a while, but Liza has only ever had eyes for their mutual best friend Tony. But when Tony comes back from soccer camp dating another girl, Ryan decides to use it to his advantage. Plus, Tony asks Ryan to help distract Liza for him so he can spend some time with his new girlfriend.

Ryan has only ever had things come relatively easily to him. So Liza is a bit of a challenge, but Ryan is about to find that she is a challenge worth fighting for. Plus, is Tony really willing to give up his best friend?

I have to tell you, these books were super sweet and so much fun to read! They were also super fast reads and great stories. I fell in love with Ryan from the get go and was cheering him on all along. He is among one of my favorite characters!

Play With Me Piper Shelly Books Reviews

I love Love LOVE this story. I love the relationship between Liza and Ryan. There are some parts of the book that literally makes me laugh out loud. This is a must read for a young adult story. I have GOT to read the next book!
This was such a cute story, but there just was not enough of it.
Which is something you won't hear me say often, as there are a lot of books with unnecessary chapters in it. But this book needed more of them!
I love these kinds of novels cute, witty and fun.
Aw, this was too sweet! And, for something so short, a lot happened at wonderful pace, and I enjoyed the witty prose.

I absolutely loved Liza - she's in love with her best friend, Tony, but of course he doesn't reciprocate, though I had a feeling she was already starting to get over that whole thing when things started with Ryan Hunter (I just feel like writing his full name because it's cool). He's awesome, but ruthless from what we saw of their training, lol. And not at all what he seems at first, a cocky arrogant jerk.

I'm a huge football (yes, football) fan, so I enjoyed this even more! I'm gonna read Shelly Piper's other book ASAP.

I really debated on whether or not I should write two reviews, one for each of these books. It kind of made sense for a little bit because they really are separate entities, but I eventually decided that because they were essentially the same general story, it would be more helpful if I just compared them together instead of separately.

In general I felt that both of these books were very light, and I really liked that. Yeah, sometimes you may want to read something a little deeper, but not every book needs to make you question the universe with some sort of philosophical mumbo jumbo. Sometimes you just want those short and sweet novels that make you smile and laugh, and you can just leave it at that.

Normally, I'm not a huge fan of summery, contemporary romance novels, but this one really worked for me. I thought that it was really funny, and it actually stayed true to how normal teenagers think and act without being cheesy or annoying. Sometimes I'm wary of reading anything from your typical "young adult's" perspective because as a young adult myself, I can personally vouch for the fact that we are capable of thinking past our hormones. As hard as it may be to believe, there is a brain in there somewhere.

Gratefully, I actually saw those brains in each (or at least most) of these characters. Yeah, their judgement may have gotten a little clouded at times due to other influences, but that's normal for everybody! And even allowing that, they wouldn't just excuse betrayal or anything along those lines with the excuse, "Oh, but he/she really loves me!" They were actually rational, but believably so.

Still, this is a story where the main characters are pretty young. They don't know everything about the world yet (even though they may like to think that they do), and they're going to make mistakes. I feel like above all else, Piper Shelly's greatest accomplishment here was capturing that. While she did allow her characters to actually seem intelligent, they were still as vulnerable and relatively inexperienced as they should be.

Now for my comparison of the two. If I had to choose, I would say that I liked Ryan Hunter just a little bit more for a few reasons. First of all, this is the longer one (by about thirty pages) and it made me laugh more often. Secondly, it was sooooooo sweet to read about how much Ryan really cared about Liza. I couldn't care less about his so called "player" reputation; he really did love her, and he wasn't afraid to show it. And honestly, I have to admit that his scheming to get her to like him was pretty fantastic.

I really loved this book...I wish it was longer, but it moved very quick and was a good read...def had the swoons. But did anyone else get major Dawson's creek flashbacks? Best friends since childhood, girl loves said best friend, best friends best friend has secret crush on the girl? Now that could be just a common plot...but the best friends sleep over at each others house and watch Steven Spielberg movies??? Kevin Willaimson could sue!
i loved the book, it was cute and romantic which I'm really into right now, i hope to find more like it soon. the book was in really good condition too.
I started to read the book because I was bored - and finished it because I couldn't be more entertained! Play With Me is one of the most fun, realistic and cool YA books I've ever had the pleasure to read. Liza, the main character, is fun, modern and palpable, having flaws and being reachable from the readers perspective. I loved the dynamic she had with Tony and Ryan - the way her feelings started to change and finally settled up into one of them was so, so good to read. I definitely recommend a try!
